Welcome to the American Colorizing.com photo blog! Our client list includes The History Channel, Ancestry.com, Canada’s Royal Alberta Museum, African-American Civil War Museum in Washington, DC, Baltimore Civil War Museum, State Office of Hawaiian Affairs in Honolulu . . . and so many others.

Ever notice how “Orange” Donald Trump’s hair is? WE’RE responsible for that. Yes, it’s been COLORIZED!

Our customers range from TV Documentary producers to Magazine Covers . . . to families like YOURS! A visit to our website gets you started: http://www.americancolorizing.com

You’ve probably noticed that our blog has not been publishing on schedule lately. That’s because I’ve been pulling double duty – reformatting our website for WordPress – and working as a Producer for a national broadcast network here in Southern California. So, things have gotten quite busy. We haven’t gone away completely – just reorganizing our lives. You can expect lots of American Colorizing photo blogs in 2017 – our studio’s 16th year in business.

Halloween is just around the corner, so here’s a spooky cheesecake shot of Anne Nagel from 1940. And as an added “Treat” (and a little bit of “Trick” photography) – I’ve added a very creative 1908 short film, called “The Haunted House”.

BREAKING NEWS: Beginning in October 2016, American Colorizing will be posting our Photo Blog every weekday (at least, that’s the plan here in September) – and the Blog will be hosted directly on our website: http://www.americancolorizing.com. In the meantime, please bear with us, as we switch over. Thanks!

Now, onto our Photo Blog’s Feature Photo for *Friday, September 9, 2016.

The year is 1944. Gasoline was 20 cents per gallon. Today, it’s 20 times that. During the war years of the 1940s, when Gas-Power didn’t get you there, due to rationing – there was always “Teen-Power”.

The year is 1924. Cruising the streets of Washington, DC, this pretty flapper of the Roaring ’20s is sure to stop traffic behind the wheel of her sporty pedal car. Beep-Beep, Beep-Beep, YEAH!

The year is 1923. Harold Lloyd is just hanging out in this famous publicity still from his comedy, “Safety Last”. Lloyd did his own stunts, so he really is hanging high above Broadway in downtown Los Angeles, about an hour’s drive from our studio.

The building, built in 1914, is located at 908 South Broadway, and is still standing today, as you can see from this Google Earth image (908 is the 8 story building on the left). Like the rest of Los Angeles, the neighborhood has changed a lot in 93 years.

Be sure to follow our blog, so you can enjoy hundreds of Before & After images of Colorized History. We publish our blog once a week- on Fridays, with occasional special editions, as we find the time. 2016 has turned into a busy year for American Colorizing.com, so we had to set aside the blog for a few months. But, we’re glad to be back – bringing you the best darn colorizing on Earth (and maybe Mars).

The year is 1946. Rita Hayworth was born for Color. With her reddish-brown hair and bright red lipstick (mixed with Vasoline to make it shine), Rita was one of Classic Hollywood’s screen beauties. We’ve taken one of Rita’s publicity photos, which were usually printed in Black & White – and bathed it in fabulous shades of color, in the style of 1940s Technicolor. I don’t mind saying that it’s almost like being there!

The year is 1850. Here’s a marvelous daguerreotype of an unknown Boston woman, taken by Southworth & Hawes. As you can see, the clarity is amazing for 164 years ago. Albert Sands Southworth and Josiah Johnson Hawes are considered the fathers of photography as an artform. Color of course is by us troublemakers at American Photo Colorizing.com

We’re still celebrating the debut of 2016 and no other photo in our gallery reflects the spirit of “putting on the ritz better than this one of German actress, Marlene Dietrich. And with that, we put a period at the end of the year 2015.

When you visit our website, you’ll see a lot of new changes for the New Year. First, and perhaps most notable, is that we’ve shortened our name to save everyone’s hard-typing fingers. We are now officially “American Colorizing”.

We also have a new website design which is more user-friendly – and best of all – just as we do it here on our photo blog, American Colorizing’s Photo Gallery features “Before & After” images in Black & White – and then Colorized. We still have the gimongous task of placing our new name on all our photos – but, all in good time.

There’s a lot more news coming your way in about a week or so, as we launch into unchartered territory – but more on that later. For now, Welcome to the “American Colorizing” Photo Blog!

The year is 1958. Jingle Bell Rock and Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree were big favorites on the radio that Christmas. And yours truly was the four year-old North Jersey boy waiting by the fireplace for Santa Claus to make his way from the North Pole. Christmas is always better in color!

Enjoy this nostalgic look back at Christmas in Morris County, New Jersey – just 30 miles due west of New York City.
