BEACH BABIES (1930)

APC - BLOG LOGO (540x540)

Welcome to American Photo Colorizing .com’s photo blog.
The year is 1930. The place: Highland Beach, Maryland. I’m trying to fit in some beach images from the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, by Labor Day. I love this 1930 photograph. I love the girls in their old-time swim suits. But most of all – I love the . . . no, I absolutely LOVE the awesomely cool convertible that got them there. Ohhh, the cruisin’ I would’ve done as a teenager in this majestic tin can! Mmmm-mmmmmm!!

KING DAVID OF HAWAII (1882)

APC - BLOG LOGO (540x540)

Welcome to American Photo Colorizing .com’s photo blog!
The year is 1882. The gentleman is King David Kalakaua of Hawaii. Originally, we colorized this photo for a very loyal Hawaiian customer of ours. We posted the results on our website, and a few months later we got a call from the State Office of Hawaiian Affairs in Honolulu. That’s how our colorized image of King Kalakaua found its way onto the cover of the March 2013 edition of “Ka Wai Ola”. It was pretty cool, and we shared the photo byline with our customer.

CALIFORNIA GIANT REDWOODS (1890)

Welcome to American Photo Colorizing .com’s photo blog!
The year is 1890 – and will you just look at the size of this California Redwood in the forests of Del Norte County. These are a couple of brave (or crazy) men. And it just occurred to me . . . if the Redwood is this huge – how big are the termites?

The year is 1941 – but teenage nature hasn’t really changed all that much in 72 years. There’s still the usually distractions to help one concentrate on their homework. Back in ’41, studying American History and Practical Math included a little boost from the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Andrews Sisters, and of course . . . Frankie.

But the days of carefree youth were about to collide with Infamy. Pearl Harbor loomed just three months away.

The year is 1864. Union troops . . . or perhaps they’re Rebs (who can tell?) are seen take a break from the battle, just long enough to “go commando” in the North Anna River of Virginia. In picking a snappy headline – the puns were running rampant, Unfortunately, I couldn’t use most of them, as our pastor reads this blog.

The year is 1870 – and we’ve got your Wild, Wild West right here. This is Echo Canyon near Salt Lake City, in what was then Utah Territory. Coming up around the bend are two Union Pacific locomotives – state of the art transportation for 1870. Just imagine the effort it must have taken to lay tracks through the Wasatch Mountains, enduring blinding winter snowstorms and 100 degree summer temperatures – over 140 years ago.

The year is 1895. An engineer racing his locomotive to make up lost time, crashes through a wall of Gare Montparnasse in Paris, France – and VOILA! No doubt “texting” was involved.

Now, Westward-Ho to today’s photo . . . The year is 1905. This slice of the old west was captured by celebrated photographer, Edwin S. Curtis. There’s just something about the expression on little Sanowa Poqui’s face that is so captivating – especially in color.

The year is 1950 – and this is the city . . . Los Angeles, California (that line’s from “Dragnet” for all the youngsters). Once upon a time this was some family’s 1934 Ford. But in 1950, it was the fastest set of wheels on West Jefferson Boulevard, in the City of Angels.
