APC - BLOG LOGO (540x540)

Welcome to American Photo Colorizing .com’s photo blog.
The year is 1930. The place: Highland Beach, Maryland. I’m trying to fit in some beach images from the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, by Labor Day. I love this 1930 photograph. I love the girls in their old-time swim suits. But most of all – I love the . . . no, I absolutely LOVE the awesomely cool convertible that got them there. Ohhh, the cruisin’ I would’ve done as a teenager in this majestic tin can! Mmmm-mmmmmm!!

The year is 1885. Here’s what the well-dressed beach crowd was wearing 130 years ago, when the universal rule in America wws “Let nobody see thy knees”. My, doesn’t this family look thrilled! I colorized this image several years ago, and nicknamed them the “Pugsleys”, after the son on the Adams Family. The name just stuck, like the chewing gum on the bottom of a good man’s shoe.

The year is 1922. This one is “hot off the presses”, as I completed colorizing this wonderful Atlantic City image only a few minutes ago. This photo turned out just I hoped it would – looking like a group of 2014 girls dressed up like the Roaring ’20s. But, no – this is in fact, a group of girls at the Jersey Shore in 1922 – dressed up like the Roaring ’20s.

Did you realize that the colorizing treatment I’ve given to these young bathing beauties of nearly a century ago – I can also give to your antique museum or family photos?

IT’S SUMMER FUN AS ONLY THE JERSEY SHORE CAN DELIVER IT. FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT PLEASURE – HERE’S A PROMO FILM OF SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ IN THE 1950s. SEASIDE HEIGHTS IS ABOUT AN HOUR NORTH OF ATLANTIC CITY. IN THE 1960s, MY FAMILY WOULD OFTEN HEAD DOWN THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY TOWARD SEASIDE HEIGHTS AND ASBURY PARK. ENJOY!

The year is 1941. Here’s a fun candid moment with Rita Hayworth on the beach at Santa Monica, California. Rita was busy all day, posing for a photographer from Life Magazine. Rita had agreed to do the photo shoot, provided she could take a break to sunbathe at the beach. The photographer cam along, and took a series of photos of Rita relaxing with a portable radio while munching on a hamburger. The resulting story and photo spread was published in the August 11, 1941 issue of Life Magazine.

The year is 1935. Girls on the beach . . . Brian Wilson spent a lifetime penning and singing songs about them. Now, that we’re celebrating “4th of Julie” week, it’s high time we paid tribute to the summer girls. These ladies are clearly enjoying a day of fun in the sun, in this photograph taken nearly 80 summers ago. And as The Beach Boys often sing, “The girls on the beach – are all within reach”.

The year is 1920. This is the first week of summer -and to commemorate it, here we are at the beach in Southern California. These healthy examples of Roaring ’20s “untamed youth” are some of Mack Sennett’s famous bathing beauties – stars of the silver screen. Fellows, now don’t you go falling for these perky young super-models. They would’ve been about 115 years old today. But over a century ago, these were the Girls of Summer.

The year is 1899. Judging by her beach attire, this Gay’90s bathing beauty probably posed for a photographer in the year 1899. There are prototypical nuances in her fashion that will raise their flamboyant heads in the Flapper Era of the Roaring ’20s. Note the comparison of her physical dimensions with that of 21st century models. Prior to legendary model, Twiggy in 1964 – the American ideal beauty had more beef on her bones than what is considered “appealing” today. In that knowledge, our lady fans may rejoice! . . . . Big is BEAUTIFUL, Baby!
